The Circus Came To Town

While Temecula was too small for the circus to come to town in the early 1960’s, Hemet was not. (Temecula was still surrounded by the 87,500 acre Vail Ranch). These vintage posters are from Friday, April 22, 1960. The star of the day was TV Star Kirby Grant, lead character of the hit series, “Sky King”. In the series, Kirby Grant played Arizona rancher and aircraft pilot Schuyler “Sky” King. The show was on the air from 1951 – 1962. Most of the episodes were filmed in the high desert of Southern California.

Today’s modern circus has done away with animals and ‘scary’ clowns and feels more like a Cirque du Soleil.
